SPIMUN 2003 brought together about 450 delegates and teachers from Belarus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the USA. Russian participants were represented by Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Moscow, and Saint-Petersburg MUN Groups.

The highlight of the conference was the Opening ceremony, which took place in the famous Taurida Palace, formerly the seat of the pre-revolutionary Russian parliament, the Duma. The Opening ceremony was sponsored by the city Committee of Education and by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Commission sessions were held in gymnasiums 157, 168, school 185 and lyceum 239; St. Petersburg University (School of International Relations).

· The role of Saint Petersburg as a cultural bridge between
East and West (towards 300 anniversary of the city)
3rd Committee (Disarmament & Int. Security)
· Towards a nuclear weapon free world
· Transparency in armaments and military expenditures
· Implementation of security standards and practical
measures preventing the access of terrorists
to vitally important objects
4th Committee (Political)
· Review of the current concept of peacekeeping
operations in all their aspects
· Combating illicit foreign support of terrorism
· The right of peoples to self-determination in
the light of conflicts caused by separatism tendencies
ECOSOC
· International efforts in combating poverty
· The availability of vaccines, medications and
advanced medical treatment to the people of less
developed countries
· Bridging the gap between developed and developing
nations in creating education and employment opportunities
for youth
Conference on the Baltic Region
· Establishment of common educational standards for
provision easier employment of young specialists
· Problems caused by admission of new members into
EU, including the question of Kaliningrad region
· 300 anniversary of Saint Petersburg and further perspectives
of development and cooperation in the Baltic region
